Biography

My name is NOMI YAH, I’m a songwriter. I wrote my first song when I was 8. When I was 13, I co-wrote King Of Kings and signed my first publishing deal with Maranatha! Music. I’ve played over a thousand shows all over the US and internationally and have performed with many artists.

Where did I get my name? Originally I was Naomi Batya Ginsberg and Nomi was my nickname. I was using the stage name Nomi Batya or Naomi Batya, but it was hard to pronounce. Someone started calling me Nomi Yah and that’s how that happened.

Where am I from? I was born in the Bronx, New York. When I was very young, we moved around a lot, to Florida, Los Angeles, North Carolina. But when I was 7, we came to Mendocino, California and I grew up in the tiny town of Albion. Now I live in the Bay Area with my son.

How did I start out? My mom, NICOLE MILNER, is a composer, songwriter and pianist. She taught me to read music and the alphabet at the same time. I grew up surrounded by music and musicians. When I was 19, I dropped out of college and began performing professionally. In 1984, I discovered multi-track home studios and learned to produce.
